Summer

It’s time for flip-flops shorts and no sleeves,
Holiday booked, high pollen you might sneeze.
Long sunsets and caramel evenings,
Catch ups, old friends, new plans, big dreaming.
Find a roof terrace for cocktail sipping,
The sun working overtime before dipping,
In the ocean cool, playing the fool,
Knowing you never have to go back to school.
Some like the seaside, sandy beach cricket.
Some like the shade to ease back and kick it.
Others like to bathe in the sun beams.
Till they’re strawberry red, should’ve worn some sun-cream.
Children playing, Wimbledon on the telly,
The DJ spinning Fresh Prince and Nelly.
Barbecues road trips and pool parties,
More ice cubes, cool down that hot body.

Divided We Fall

He came from a terraced house, average area,

No starvation, drought or malaria.

Asian mother, British dad,

Younger brother, life’s not bad.

As a young kid he grew to know death,

Three dead relatives not even 10 yet.

Pain and suffering that was a sure bet,

Poverty is hard to forget.

It wasn’t even that bad, his mum grafted,

Only earning pennies but knew how to last it.

Money was the goal he knew had to earn it,

School was the path to that so he learned it.

He didn’t get why his dad couldn’t cope,

Depression was the enemy of which we never spoke.

He didn’t know the terrors that were hidden in the night,

Luckily his mum had dreams that were right.

Piano and tennis lessons, not toys,

Not football, never one of the boys.

Reading, times-tables and homework,

Talent the framework, mixed with hard work.

If we stick together we can defy,

Elitist rulers who would rather see you die.

Divided we fall, United we rise.

Divided we fall, United we rise.

Skip to the good bit, now he’s a doctor.

That reality may not shock you.

Most of the media trained to thought block you,

Conditioned to believe that the foreigners will rob you.

Too damn busy to see the details,

Chasing the paycheck, slave to the retail.

Statistically you will earn less,

If you’re Black, Asian or Female.

How can this be fair?

The establishment don’t seem to care.

In fact they are much more than aware,

They use their power to keep them there.

Government cutbacks, rising poverty,

Only the rich will get to learn properly,

Only the rich will get to own property,

Fostering fear to maintain authority.

“Our borders must be closed, terrorism grows through mass migration”

How can immigrants be the enemy when immigration formed this nation?

If we stick together we can defy,

Elitist rulers who would rather see you die.

Divided we fall, United we rise.

Divided we fall, United we rise.

If we stick together we can defy,

Elitist rulers who would rather see you die.

Divided we fall, United we rise.

Divided we fall, United we rise.

Everybody’s fighting to be the best,

When death is the only certainty.

Trying to put each other down, macho leaning,

Spitting about spilling out your burgundy.

I feel for your pain, it’s hurting me,

I walk in your shoes, that’s empathy.

Wondering why you never heard of me?

You’re still learning to rhyme like nursery.

Everybody is chasing success immediate,

15 years and I am still dreaming it,

But there’s several ways of achieving it,

Unity, Peace, Equality, I believe in it.

Every person I’ve learned to help that’s still breathing,

Is living proof I’m succeeding it.

I’m trying to give back to the culture,

Stop biting the hand feeding it.

My dream was personal gain,

We’ve all been programmed to think the same,

But half the world is starving it’s got to change,

Weapons trade, corruption, it’s so deranged.

Consume their products, they tax evade,

Let’s shoot a silver bullet at these suckers like blade.

Why should the villains get paid?

Viruses die without the hosts they invade.

You can forget all the rest of them, but please remember this line,

Nothing is more powerful, than a free mind.
